Demetrius Bing

Demetrius Bing is a contemporary visual artist based in Charleston, South Carolina, whose work transforms raw emotion into powerful visual narratives. A self-taught painter, Bing has emerged as a distinctive voice in the Lowcountry art scene, known for his bold use of color, layered symbolism, and deeply personal storytelling. 

Drawing inspiration from lived experience, his work explores themes of trauma, resilience, intimacy, and transformation. Each piece serves as both a personal release and a universal mirror—inviting viewers to confront, reflect, and connect with the complexities of the human condition. Through expressive abstraction and symbolic elements, Bing creates paintings that feel less like static images and more like evolving emotional landscapes. 

Bing’s artistic journey began as a return to creativity in adulthood, where he rediscovered painting as a means of processing and expressing deeply rooted experiences. Since then, he has built a growing body of work that resonates for its honesty and vulnerability, often drawing comparisons to expressionist and street-influenced styles. 

His work has been exhibited across the Charleston area and beyond, including appearances at the Gibbes Museum of Art and participation in the MOJA Arts Festival, where he was selected as the 40th anniversary poster artist. He has also presented solo exhibitions such as Full Circle and has been featured in galleries supporting emerging and underrepresented voices. 

Through his brand, Art of Bing, Demetrius continues to expand his practice beyond the canvas into murals and community-centered work, creating immersive experiences that bring art into shared spaces. His mission is not only to create compelling visual work, but to spark conversation, encourage healing, and remind others of the power of authentic self-expression.
